The funeral altar of the image was erected by Ulpios Zosas after the death of his wife Iulia Eutychiane, as a sign of her tomb, in the second half of the 2nd century AD. In the inscription engraved on the monument, he proudly remarks that she was a famous doctor, and in fact he emphasizes her status as a men doctor first, and then her status as a midwife, which is common and expected for a woman.
Thanks to this report, Eutychiane of Dion takes her place amongst the exceptional cases of female doctors of the ancient world.
The funeral altar of Julia Eutychiane is built into the late Roman wall of Dion.
